Picturing Vaughan with brush and palette The City Above Toronto as high school students see it Originally Published: 2006-06-18
Picture your Vaughan was the call that the City issued to its students; and students responded, giving their own vision of the "City Above Toronto".
Now, after weeks of work with brushes and palettes, the results created by Vaughan's high school students have been presented to the public: each group of young artists chose to highlight an aspect of the largest city in the York Region: Diversity, Pride, Togetherness, Above, are some of the titles of the works that will remain on display at the site of the future new Civic Centre, 2141 Major Mackenzie Drive.
The artwork will beautify the construction site, covering the building activity for the new City Hall.
The competition saw teams from Emily Carr Secondary School, Father Bressani Catholic High School, Holy Cross Catholic Academy, Maple High School, Next Page School, Pushkin Private School, St. Elizabeth Catholic High School, St. Jean de Brebeuf Catholic High School, Toronto Waldorf School, Westmount Collegiate Institute and Woodbridge College.
The works were unveiled in the presence of Vaughan mayor Michael Di Biase, students from the various schools involved, and numerous members of the City Council, such as Bernie DiVona, Peter Meffe, Tony Carella and Sandra Yeung-Racco, as well as the principals of the schools. They were treated to a glance of how the Vaughan youth see their city.
