Warhol's aesthetic philosophy Evolution of American Pop artist on display Originally Published: 2005-03-06
The Philosophy of Aesthetics, an exhibition of Andy Warhol's works, has been extended to March 6. The exhibition opened on December 23 at Palazzo Racani Arroni in Spoleto, where over 4,500 individuals have already visited it. The works on display give a panoramic view of the evolution of this great creative genius, starting from the famous Gold Book, which marked the first use of the artist's signature technique.
The exhibition holds over 50 artworks, including some studies on plexiglass, which Warhol used for defining colours and spatial arrangements before transferring these concepts onto his cardboard prototypes that would then be reproduced in limited sets. There is also the prototype of the exceptional Grapes series. The presentation continues with works of the Italian period such as Vesuvius, here in its only square-shaped version; the red sky was subsequently cut away, and the series explored chromatic variations on this subject. According to a release from the City of Spoleto, this exhibition acquires special significance due to the addition of a moving photo sequence titled Andy Warhol's waiting room, created by artist Dino Pedriali. "Through his photographic sensitivity," underscored art critic Achille Bonito Oliva, "Pedriali engages the star of American Pop Art in a kind of single combat, framing the flow of his life."
