A lazy and ridiculous comedy that has no redeeming qualities whatsoever going for it, Christmas with the Kranks is this scribe's candidate for worst Holiday movie of the season.
Luther (Tim Allen) and Nora (Jamie Lee Curtis) Krank live in a neighbourhood where everyone takes pride in their Christmas celebrations. But after their daughter, Blair (Julie Gonzalo), heads to Peru for the holidays, the couple decide not to spend the thousands of dollars on gifts, decorations and, most importantly, their annual Eve dinner to take a cruise instead. This drives the neighbours, led by Dan Aykroyd, bonkers leading Luther and Nora to hide out in their own home until their flight on Christmas Eve. But, of course, that morning Blair calls from the airport to say she's coming home after all to show her new South American boyfriend what a real American family Christmas is all about. So now the Kranks have little choice but ask their neighbours for help in getting everything up, including the party, before the kid gets home.
Why not tell Blair about the cruise plans? Why not call the police on the invading neighbours? Where did Jamie Lee Curtis learn to squeal so irritatingly?
Just awful.
