Talk about flying over one's head. The odd documentary, What the #$*! Do We Know!? attempts to explain quantum mechanics to us non-scientists. But the combination of talking-head interviews, dramatization and cheesy special effects only had this critic bored.
Many experts, including physicist Fred Allen Wolf and mystic Ramtha, tell the camera their theories about the science and how it affects our everyday lives. Interspersed with their views comes Amanda (Marlee Matlin) as a depressed woman who's confronted with elements of quantum mechanics. We follow her as she meets a kid on the basketball court and photographs a wedding that turns weird. It's all very clunky and awkward.
Science geeks will either be fascinated by the filmmakers' technique in explaining the science, or will roll their eyes at the simplification of it. Students, who get it, will probably be fascinated. But for most of us, the pic is pointless and puzzling.
