I Do and How Much? is a revealing documentary that attempts to literally "lift the veil" on our culture's perception of the wedding day as a celestial walk in the clouds, complete with the perfect dress, flawless reception that dwindles into the wee hours of the morning, and blushing, carefree bride. In order to shatter this distorted fantasy, Anthony and Smith Corindia of primamedia have co-produced the one-hour documentary that airs June 7 on the Life Network.
The documentary follows two cross-cultural Canadian couples on their journey to the altar. The first couple, representing the Italian and Serbian cultures, is documented in the early stages of their nuptial preparations, while the second, who are a mixed Portuguese and Canadian couple, is featured on their actual wedding day. The two couples were selected from a total of thirty as part of a casting call.
I Do and How Much? focuses on the emotional and financial costs of marriage, as well as the stress that culminates in the wedding planning process, which leads to sacrifice and compromise on both sides. The relationships of the documented couples are also tested, as they realize that planning their perfect day is much like organizing a grand Broadway theatrical production, requiring Herculean responsibility and effort in order to be properly planned. And thus, the dreams of confetti and champagne soon dissolve as easily as cotton candy on a child's tongue as the ugly reality of wedding planning sets in like a stubborn stain.
Anthony Corindia directed, produced and edited the documentary. He is a winner of two Gemini awards, both for best editing, and has had a successful 20-year career in film and television production. His achievements include several features, documentaries, as well as a pioneering role in the production of rock videos. His innovative style has brought him success in both North America and Europe. He is currently developing Generations, a TV show that pits mothers- and daughters-in law in a cooking bonanza in order to help them overcome cultural clashes.
