Often, while looking at the future we forget about the past and how much was needed to arrive at the position that we find ourselves in today. However the Italian Chamber of Commerce of Toronto wanted to dig into the past, and bring to light a group of people that have excelled in their profession and in their community obligations that they have demonstrated to us all.
A series of "business excellence awards" were given out at a gala night organized at the Verdi Hospitality Centre in Mississauga on May 15, where Premier Ernie Eves had participated. Awards went to Philip S. Orsino for "Business Excellence"; Domenic Guerreri for "Young Busness Excellence"; Norberto Marocco for "Innovation in Business"; Laureano Leone for "President's"; and Joseph S. Mancinelli for "ICCT Special Recognition".
The presence of the head of the Ontario government was among other personalities, which included the Italian Ambassador of Canada S.E. Marco Colombo. Colombo had emphasized the success of these Canadians with Italian origins within this province, in the country and throughout the world.
A success that Eves described in his speech was that these individuals provided a founding element in the economic fabric of Ontario and should be an example for the new generations of entrepreneurs, whether they're of Italian origin or not.
In the course of the evening the Chamber of Commerce also presented the new collaborative agreement between the ICCT, Partners Italy and Canada and Tin. Next May 31 at 7:30 p.m. they will begin a television programme that will begin in trimesters, like the paper publication, concentrating on themes of economic development, of commerce and finances, with a cultural flavour accented by a particular urban flair.
