Bryan Ferry Frantic - Virgin Music Canada By Chris Twomey

Bryan Ferry's 11th album finds him invigorated after the Roxy Music reunion tour, with apparently a new appreciation for the many stylistic paths he's been on throughout his career. The first single "Goddess Of Love" furthers Ferry's lush, romantic side courtesy of Avalon producer Rhett Davies, who brings a sweeping, epic feel to this remembrance of Marilyn Monroe. In stark contrast to that are Ferry's harmonica solos on a couple tracks and the relatively rootsy interpretations of standards by Leadbelly ("Goodnight Irene"), Don Nix ("Goin' Down") and Bob Dylan (who Ferry has been drawing on since his first solo outing in 1973). And in the intriguing middle ground are moody pieces about Orson Welles ("San Simeon") and Alan Resnais' classic film Hiroshima Mon Amour ("Hiroshima"), with enough mystery and noir art references to please the most jaded of old school Roxy fans.
