Holiday DVD ideas for kids

By Angela Baldassarre

There is no better time to invest in a DVD player than this coming Holiday season. Not only is the technology outstanding, but the prices are nearly compatible with your average videocassette recorder. And if you have kids, it's really the only way to appreciate the special features hidden behind the films.
This columnist's household, which includes a two-year-old budding film critic, has experienced first-hand the success of Buena Vista Home Entertainment's latest releases.
Disney animated weird masterpiece Lilo & Stitch managed to engross the child, leaving the adults baffled by the strange little alien creature who causes havoc on earth. The disc includes three deleted scenes; four "InterSTITCHals", teaser trailers where Stitch invades Disney movies such as Beauty & The Beast, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and The Lion King; Create Your Own Alien Experiment Game; a Hula Lesson; and much more.
Walt Disney Treasure Wave 2 is three separate limited edition DVD sets that collects the studio's best-loved personages. Hosted by film historian Leonard Maltin, the sets are divided as Mickey Mouse in Black and White, The Complete Goofy and Behind the Scenes at the Walt Disney Studios. Recommended for film buffs.
Now back to the kids. Disney's Winnie the Pooh: A Very Merry Pooh Year, a full-length adventure where our friends prepare to celebrate the New Year. But tired of being teased, Rabbit threatens to move away, forcing the pals to rethink their attitudes. The disc contains A Covered In Snow Game; a New Year's Eve Party Countdown; a Disney Song Selection; and a Sing Along With The Movie sequence.
Finally there's Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas, when the household remembers the time when Belle, before the enchantment was broken, tries to fill the castle with the lost sounds of the Holidays. But Forte, the evil pipe organ, wants to put a stop to it all. Contains All-New Music Video "As Long As There's Christmas;" A Behind-The-Scenes Featurette, and more.
